New Zealand defender Winston Reid played a huge part in the All-Whites' historic draw on Tuesday, scoring the crucial goal and making a key defensive play earlier in the game.

For his effort, he was awarded MLSsoccer.com's Player of the Day gong, as voted on by site visitors.

Reid collected 38.1 percent of the vote, narrowly edging out North Korea's Ji Yun-Nam (29.5 percent) for the honor. Brazil's Maicon earned 18.1 percent of the users' votes.

New Zealand tied Slovenia 1-1 after Reid's stoppage-time strike. The goal earned the Kiwis their first-ever point in a World Cup.
